I was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After finishing College of fine arts N.K. Rerih I came to Slovenia, where I graduated at the Academy of fine arts and design Ljubljana. I'm a member of Fine Artists Associations Ljubljana and Union of Slovene Fine Arts Associations. I live and work in Slovenia.
I've been occupied with art for all my life, as in the sense of discovering new artistic paths as well as painting by commissions. I use mostly acrylic and aquarelle colors and sometimes oil, pencil or charcoal. In my painting I like to use distinctive color contrasts and search for expression in the rhythm of lines. Sometimes I paint with greater color stains and try to create color dominants; I try to influence the viewer emotionally. I like strong tone and purity of color and also find a great joy in decorative painting.
The subject of my painting is usually portrait or figure and is often oriented toward past. An important topic of my artistic interest is referred to period at the end of 19th century in Russia, which presents turning point in history for that country and consequently the whole world. I admire "Images of the old world" and try to maintain their life and value by relating to them, actualizing them and ennobling them with personal experiences.
Images of the old world, forgotten and lost in our memory, take me over and enthusiast me as from the aspect of artistic perception as in entirely individual, excessively personal absorption of our reality. Those images can be represented in the form of the market, filled with antique, long forgotten things; they can be old toys, which brought happiness to children of that time; it can be the dress, which represented the top of fashion and glamour; it can be the dish, which our ancestors used to apply; it can be books, that they read…. Those are the elements of an old existence - life of our ancestors.
Why do people meet on the market? What associates them? They meet, they talk, they exchange some news; market is accordingly the place for social encounters from upon a time. I used it as an example because it directly reflects resemblance with ancient 19th century, which is the subject of my research - that is to say the need for communication, understanding and social gathering. Emotions that we have for other people after all haven´t fundamentally change. It is true that every century brings new differences, that habits and customs change, that we developed technologically as civilization very fast, but we can´t and will never be able to change ourselves. Modern men, surrounded with all kinds of technical lumber, flooded with various information, trapped in infinite circle of fast living, perhaps don´t even realize just how much they actually have in common with ancient predecessors. My attention got mostly the life at the end of the 19th century, because that period actually isn´t so far away from nowadays, even if it differs from appearance. We are modern people, we force our life forward, we follow the progress; we have TVs, computers, radios, internet and thousand and one electronic device. Yet still we are not so different; in previous periods people really did not have all these technological novelties, but they’ve had their own habits and spoils, their own joys and pleasures and in spiritual sense maybe even richer life. People maybe didn´t have a TV receiver, but they more frequently went out to visits and they associated more than they do nowadays. They didn´t listen to electronic or rock music, but they rather danced by the rhythm of accordion and piano on village parties and gala dances.
Looking back at the past can reveal many parallels with today’s modern, fast, brave new world, that runs into unknown. I would like that my images at least for a moment bring the spectator back to that world, for which he was convinced that is already long forgotten.
